Sitka Sound Science Center

Museum • Sitka, Alaska United States

The Sitka Sound Science Center is a unique fusion of an aquarium and a research institute dedicated to studying and showcasing the marine biodiversity of Alaska. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits that feature local marine life, including touch tanks where they can experience sea creatures up close.

One of the highlights is the salmon hatchery, where the life cycle of salmon is displayed, offering insights into their developmental stages and the center's efforts in sustainable fishery practices. This exhibit not only educates but also emphasizes the importance of salmon to Alaska's ecosystems and economies.

Additionally, the center conducts regular educational programs and workshops aimed at all ages, making it a perfect spot for family visits. These programs are designed to inspire and inform guests about marine conservation and the scientific processes used to study marine life.

The Sitka Sound Science Center also serves as a hub for researchers and scientists, focusing on marine research and environmental education. This dual function enriches the visitor experience, providing a deeper understanding of the scientific work behind marine conservation and the specific challenges faced in the Alaskan waters.
