Rosslyn Castle, a historical fortress, stands as a testament to Scotland's medieval architecture and turbulent history. Built in the 14th century by the St. Clair family, the castle has witnessed numerous battles and sieges throughout its existence. Although partly in ruins, the remaining structure offers a glimpse into the past with its robust defensive walls and intricately carved stonework.

Exploring Rosslyn Castle

The approach to Rosslyn Castle is as dramatic as its history. Visitors walk through a wooded path that opens up to reveal the imposing ruins, perched on a high ridge overlooking the River Esk. The castle's surviving residential parts have been restored and are available for overnight stays, providing a unique opportunity to live amongst history. Its interiors, although refurbished, retain elements that echo the medieval period, such as vaulted ceilings and antique furnishings.

Adjacent to the castle are the beautifully maintained castle grounds, which are ideal for leisurely walks or picnics, offering serene views of the surrounding woodlands and river. The nearby Rosslyn Chapel, another historic site tied to the St. Clair family, features exquisite stone carvings and is reputed to have connections to the Knights Templar.
