About The Metropolitan Museum of Art

One of the most visited museums in the world and the largest one in the US (often nicknamed as the “Met”) was founded in 1870. Its massive collection of art pieces is divided among its three buildings, the main one being located on the 5th Avenue.

There are exhibits from all the epochs of the human history (e.g. the antiquities, the Ancient Egypt, the Medieval Art or the Modern Art) and many different areas (e.g. Europe, America, Oceania, Asia, Africa etc.). There are also collections of historical costumes, musical instruments, photographs or weapons and armors.

Since the museum is so large and contains so many different works of art, you might need to consult the museum map (available via the official website) and plan your route according to your personal interests. Seeing everything in one visit might be a bit overwhelming.

There are various free guided tours organised at the museum so be sure to check the official websites for the details.
