Day of the Dead in the Indigenous Towns of Chiapas

DAY OF THE DEAD IS A MYSTICAL AND UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE. October 31st: Preparations for Day of the Dead in Zinacántán and San Juan Chamula. Day 1: The Romerillo and Zinacántán Cemeteries (cemetery and town). Day 2: The towns and cemeteries of Zinacántán and San Juan Chamula ROMERILLO - According to the indigenous belief of the community, the souls of the deceased arrive on foot to visit their relatives every November 1st. A visit to the Romerillo cemetery, located on a mountain crowned with 22 enormous Tzotzil crosses, is a very genuine, yet somewhat rude experience. Zinacántán - The cemetery will be decorated with an abundance of floral arrangements at an altitude of 2,700 meters, offering a beautiful view and a mystical atmosphere. Visit the church and a family of artisans to see the textiles made on a backstrap loom. SAN JUAN CHAMULA: ancestral indigenous celebrations at the cemetery, visit the church. EL CHIFLÓN WATERFALLS - MONTEBELLO LAGOONS - DEPARTURE FROM TUXTLA GUTIERREZ Departure at 6:00 am. We will head towards the most impressive waterfalls in Chiapas, Cascadas el Chiflón, where we will take a tour that lasts approximately 2 hours, starting with the ones located downstream, which are the following: Cascada el suspiro, Cascada Ala de Ángel, Cascada Arco Iris, Cascada Quinceañera, and the main Velo de Novia Waterfall (a beautiful curtain of water 70 meters high that has a viewpoint), the highest and most powerful waterfall in Chiapas. Then we continue with the excursion to the Montebello Lagoons, one of the most beautiful natural sites in the country, due to its aquatic environments, both surface and underground, where we will observe lagoons such as: Lake Tziscao, Laguna Pojoj, Lake Montebello, Laguna Enchanted and the dreamy lagoon.
